Specialist Operational & Resilience Risk

The primary function of this role is to provide second line of defence oversight to the business (first line of defence) through effective management of operational risk. This includes oversight of the risk profile, control environment, Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs), key risk indicators, risk appetite, risk events, incidents, and issue management.

The role ensures that all activities and duties are conducted in full compliance with the Operational and Resilience Risk Management Framework, as well as applicable regulatory requirements and internal Absa policies and standards.

• Provide effective second line of defence oversight by guiding and supporting the business in the implementation of the Operational Risk Framework.
• Provide relevant guidance and training to business on the implementation of Operational Risk framework components.
• Assess business compliance with applicable risk frameworks.
• Participate in the scoping and definition of Operational Risk deliverables.
• Support the business in risk identification and assessment.
• Conduct rigorous analysis and oversight of the RCSA process.
• Review and challenge the end-to-end risk profile and control environment.
• Provide oversight on deep dives, root cause analysis, and lessons learned for material risks.
• Review remediation plans for adequacy and progress.
• Perform annual reviews of RCSAs and Critical Process Assessments (CPAs).
• Actively participate in Operational Risk governance forums.
• Drive the remediation of issues, including overdue actions and ineffective controls.
• Provide oversight for accurate capture of Operational Risk data in ORMS.

• Postgraduate qualification in Risk Management, Finance/Accounting, Economics, Business Management, Internal Audit, or Law.
• Bachelor Honours Degree in Auditing or Law.
